Master Of Watch Making Materials
HIGH-TECH CERAMIC
Innovative, enduring, hypoallergenic
For nearly three decades high-tech ceramic has played a central role in Rado’s approach to watchmaking. High-tech ceramic timepieces are objects of art and craftsmanship: Their smooth stylish surfaces can be metallic or matte, crafted in an ever-expanding array of colours. They are also a gentle approach to glamour: Lightweight and hypoallergenic, high-tech ceramic watches are incredibly comfortable and can be worn by anyone with sensitive skin.
PLASMA HIGH-TECH CERAMIC
Modern alchemy
In a pioneering process used by Rado, plasma high-tech ceramic is forged in an oven at high temperatures. Gases activated at 20,000°C transform finished white ceramic into a unique material with an otherworldly metallic shine – but without the use of any metal. In a process akin to modern alchemy, the colour of the ceramic is transformed without affecting its essential properties: lightness, hardness and wearer comfort.
CERAMOS - Lightweight, revolutionary and extremely hard
A marriage of high-tech ceramic and metal, Ceramos is a one-of-a-kind material. It offers the optimal properties of both components: the lightness and durability of ceramic and the irresistible luster of metal. Today Ceramos can be fashioned in a variety of colours, including platinum, gold and rose gold. Much like Rado’s high-tech ceramic, it is a lightweight material that adjusts quickly to skin temperature, offering unrivalled comfort to the wearer.
HIGH-TECH DIAMOND - As hard as natural diamond
For decades Rado had envisaged making watches from a material as hard as a natural diamond. As a result of painstaking research and the use of cutting-edge nanotechnology, the Rado dream became a reality with the unveiling of the Rado V10K watch. With its uniquely resistant high-tech diamond surface, the Rado V10K achieves a hardness of 10,000 Vickers
SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL - Durable transparency
Sapphire crystal is used in all Rado watches. Convex, facetted or flat, it underscores the dynamic profile of the timepiece and creates a seamless transition from the crystal to the bracelet and case. Rado’s innovative use of metallisation on the surface of the crystal lends additional distinction.
HARDMETAL - Pure, sleek and robust
In 1962, Rado introduced the iconic Rado DiaStar 1, a scratch-resistant watch at a time when this was far from the norm. The secret behind this creation? Hardmetal. Still used by Rado today, hardmetal is an exceptionally robust material – more durable than steel, gold and platinum and capable of withstanding the stresses of everyday life
DIAMONDS - Fascinating and beautiful
With their incomparable timeless brilliance, diamonds are a natural complement to the long-lasting beauty of Rado timepieces. Rado only uses fine white Top Wesselton diamonds. Additionally, Rado only buys stones that meet the requirements of the Kimberley process, which prevents the use of blood diamonds.
